Meet Major Buzz! He is one handsome dude!
Major is one of four in the Buzz litter. They appear to be a Labrador Retriever mix about 5 to 6 months old. Major is all black. He's currently 35-40 pounds and is most likely going to be a large dog. Being a puppy still, he'll need to be house trained, crate trained and is doing well with learning to walk on a leash. As with all our dogs and especially puppies, we strongly recommend they attend obedience classes because it not only offers opportunities for them to learn commands, have some socialization and build their confidence, but it also helps strengthen that all-important bond between the pup and his human family. And a well-behaved dog is welcomed most anywhere you take them! Major's energy level and exercise requirements are moderate to high and though a fenced yard would be ideal for him to get the exercise he needs, if a yard isn't available then plenty of daily leash walks and lots of opportunity for off-leash play at a dog park will work to tire him out. Dogs of all ages also need mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. Major plays well with his siblings and with another dog who was with them for a while. He hasn't been cat-tested, nor has he been around children, but he's very friendly and we think he would love kids. He is going to be a big dog though, so probably older children in the home might be best, as little ones might get knocked down. Major seems very smart, eager to please and affectionate - and at times, puppy-goofy. He's somewhat gentle, but he's still young. He will need a home that will give him the kind of leadership and training that will make him the super family member he's meant to be.
Are you ready for some puppy action? Do you have the time, energy and patience to deal with all a puppy's antics? Most important of all, do you have the love that Major's longing for? Then fill out an application today and get ready for some puppy-wonderful times ahead!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment and his coat is improving. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
