Sally Sunshine is here to brighten up someone's life!
Sally appears to be a Shepherd mix about 11 months old. She's awesome! She's good with all other dogs, with cats, and walks beautifully on a leash - she'd make a great running partner! She will go in her crate willingly and behaves in it. We don't know yet if she's house trained, but she's very smart and extremely eager to please so house training her shouldn't be a problem. Her foster mom takes her out fairly frequently so she hasn't had any accidents in the house lately. She's good in the car and likes toys, so she's looking forward to a trip to the pet store to pick out some new ones to play with. Sally enjoys playing fetch in the house, but there are too many distractions for her to concentrate on the game outside. Her favorite toy is your basic tennis ball and we've just learned she LOVES squeaky toys! We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes, not only because you get to learn commands together and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, but because it helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. And it’s lots of fun! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though a fenced yard (6-ft. recommended because she can jump very high) is the ideal place for Sally to run and play safely, if one is not available she will needs lots of daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park which is the next best thing - and Sally enjoys the dog park! A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. At 11 months Sally can still be an silly puppy and puppies require a lot of time, energy and patience to help them grow into the well-mannered adult dog they're meant to be. Sally will need help learning that her chew toys are the only appropriate chewing items and that jumping up on people is bad manners. Because of her tendency to jump and nibble on fingers, a home with older dog-respectful children is recommended. She has learned "sit" and "down" and is working on "stay." Sally does startle easily and is very cautious around the guys in her foster home, but she is a sweetheart and needs all the love you can give her!
