Laddie Boy is just the sweetest, most cuddly teddy bear!
He's amazing and has manners galore. He won't get up on the sofa, but puts his head in your lap and LOVES cuddling! Laddie appears to be a Border Collie mix somewhere between 2 and 4 years of age. He's house trained, crate trained and walks on a leash. He does well in the car, is great with all other dogs, and kids. He is cautious when meeting new people and a bit timid in new places, but warms up quickly and is fine.  Laddie has lived around cats, but has shown too much interest in them at some times, so we would like to place Laddie in a home without cats.

Laddie doesn't necessarily need a yard, but he will need daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park which is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation, especially dogs from the working class breeds like Laddie – think puzzle toys and games. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes, not only because you get to learn commands together and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, but because it helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. And it’s lots of fun! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Laddie's very smart and ahead of the game - he already knows "sit" and "stay"! Laddie was picked up as a stray and is just learning now about playing - with toys and with the game of fetch. He'll most likely wish to continue learning all about this great new thing with his new family! He's affectionate and outgoing, even-tempered, gentle and always trying to please. If you have room in your home and heart for this amazing, sweet boy then fill out an application for Laddie Boy! Any time could be cuddle time!

Medical Note: Laddie Boy is being treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, he will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. He is expected to be ready to travel in late February or early March, but he is available for adoption now.  We promise that he will be well worth the wait for someone who wants a dream dog!

Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
