This sweet, handsome boy is Jack!
Jack appears to be an Akita/Shepherd mix about 2 years old. He's such a great dog! He has a gorgeous thick coat, and soulful caramel eyes. He's crate trained, rides well in the car, walks on a leash and is working diligently on his house training. He listens quite well and seems to be obedient. He is playful, loves toys, affectionate, and eager to please. He's very friendly and comfortable meeting new people and going new places, though he can be somewhat protective of his person which is typical of the Akita breed. Jack will need a little work on his house manners - he sometimes jumps up for attention and has given counter surfing a whirl, and while he has a confident personality, he is not a busy body or pushy. He will excel in a home that will give him a good amount of exercise and also structure, rules and training reinforcement. His new people should plan to attend obedience classes, not only because you get to learn commands together and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, but because it helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. And it’s lots of fun! A well-mannered, obedient dog like Jack will be welcomed most anywhere you take him.
Jack does not require a fenced yard, but his people should plan to give him daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Jack would love to be the apple of your eye and have all of your attention for himself, but he could also enjoy having a canine buddy. He has lived with other dogs and did fine, and he enjoys playing with some of his foster siblings, but some dogs he does not care for, particularly those who are reactive. A meeting with any resident dog(s) will be important prior to adoption, and non-reactive dogs are the most likely to be a good fit for him. If you can't tell, this boy is a very special dog. He is a sweet and gentle soul who's loving, smart and deserves a great family. If Jack sounds like the perfect fit for your family, fill out an application today. Jack's waiting just for you!
Jack's Backstory: Jack escaped from his home in Louisiana and his owner didn't want him back when Animal Control called them.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
