This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

This handsome hunk of goofball is Eddie!
Eddie appears to be a German Wirehaired Pointer about 1-2 years old, though he clearly is still reveling in puppyhood.  Eddie loves to zoom around the yard and play, play, play - with other dogs, balls, stuffed animals, sticks...! He's a bouncy, happy dog.

Eddie would be ideal for a young family who is looking for an active dog to take on daily adventures; a calm, lapdog type of life would not be for him.  Eddie enjoys playing and just being a goofyball so his family will need to have patience with him while he learns the rules, as he still forgets his manners frequently when he gets excited.  He's great with other dogs and seems to be non-reactive to cats, though he has never been loose around them .  Eddie would probably do best in a home with another canine sibling who likes to play as much as he does - another dog who is playful and medium to high energy would be perfect.  He gets along with all types and sizes of dogs, but 20-25lbs or larger would probably be the best match.  Eddie is learning not to jump on people and is  mostly house trained but may have some accidents during the transition.  He does not like to be crated and walks well on a leash.   Because of his energy, he would be best in a home with no or older children, as he might knock littler ones over, though he has been very respectful of an infant who visits his foster home.

Eddie is a very loving and playful dog who is still learning to  be an inside dog.    Eddie will benefit from obedience classes where he can learn commands with his new people, as well as build his confidence and social skills.   Eddie would love to have a fenced yard. He can become distracted while playing and not be aware of danger from vehicles, etc. If this isn't an option, though, he will need regular daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a fenced area like a dog park.  A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Eddie loves to have you throw the ball and then play keep-away - bringing it back is not part of his rules. He loves playing in the baby pool and rolling in mud puddles - he's not sure about a water hose or water coming at him, but the sprinkler is lots of fun! He can also calm down and cuddle when he's gotten enough of the zoomies out.

If this lovable goofball sounds like the perfect fit for your family, fill out an application for Eddie! He's waiting to hear from you and about all the adventures you'll taking together!

Eddie's Back Story:  Eddie  was picked up as a stray and because he was unclaimed, the Texas shelter he was in had him slated to be euthanized. Fortunately for him - and SOS - he was pulled by one of our rescue partners. He has been a huge asset to a fearful foster sibling, spending time playing with her and dangling a rope toy in front of her to engage her in play. She's responded well and now does zoomies around the yard with him. Eddie makes friends with any dog who wants to be friends with him.

Medical Note: This dog was treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Treatment has been completed and the dog tested negative for microfilaria.  He is cleared to resume normal activity and now ready to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
