Meet Heidi River!
Heidi is one of five females in our group of 7 River pups. We're not sure that the two boys are siblings of the five girls in the group, but they all appear to be Labrador Retriever mixes about 6 months old, and all are from rural Mississippi. The mother of the two boys appears to be a Yellow Lab and her owner believes the dad might be a lab mix. She said there were five in the litter and three of them were given away. The five girls were found under a bridge about the middle of March. Their rescuer tried to find homes for them, but no one wanted a puppy. She herself was going to keep one, but changed her mind at the last minute and surrendered them all to one of our southern rescue partners.
Heidi LOVES to play! She and some of her sisters will try to escape if being asked to do something they don't want to do. She's a sweet, loving, friendly pup who's good with other dogs and would probably be fine with kids. She has not been introduced to kitty cats as of yet. She seems to be fairly outgoing and not overly phased by new environments or situations. She's a very loving girl! Being typical puppies these little gals have so much to learn! They'll need house training, crate training (Heidi has done fine while crated on car rides) and will need to learn to walk on a leash (working on it!). We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it!
Heidi River's black with beautiful white markings like three of her sisters. Her right front paw is black and her back paws look more gray than white. If you're ready to commit to Heidi, she's ready to shower you with sweet puppy kisses and warm furry snuggles! Fill out an application today!

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
