This little love-bug is Silas!
Silas appears to be a Chihuahua/Dachsund mix, commonly referred to as a Chiweenie. He's almost three months old and cute as a button! He's shy, but friendly, and LOVES to be held. He will go to the back of his crate when you reach in, but will let you pick him up and doesn't try to bite. He's good with other dogs and with cats - he hasn't been introduced to any children as of yet. Being as small as he is, he would be best in a home with older children who can respect his littleness. He's very sweet and affectionate, likes toys and is just funny and cute! Being a puppy he has so much to learn! He'll need house training, crate training and will need to learn to walk on a leash - the last two skills are in progress. We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it!
Silas' world has been rather small and so all these things need to be taken slowly with him. He is one of twenty dogs surrendered by a couple living in severe poverty (no sewer or running water), who had been using the local shelter's feeding program. It was discovered that they had 23 dogs living in their house - they were unable to afford spaying or neutering so the dogs kept reproducing. Silas is outgoing, but still a bit shy with a mix of rambunctiousness! If you have room in your home and your heart for this pint-sized cutie, fill out an application today! Silas is waiting just for you!

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
