Southern Charm times four!
Meet Clara, one of the two girls in the Southern Charm litter! This puppy's Momma was abandoned a few months ago in Arkansas and a Good Samaritan took her in to care for her until room opened up in the shelter. Shortly thereafter, Momma gave birth to six sweet pups. One of the puppies was given away before SOSARL could help out, and the foster will be keeping one of the puppies, but there are four little sweethearts available for adoption! They will be weaned around 6-7 weeks and kept with Momma and each other until about 10 weeks of age for continued socialization, before being transported to New England for adoption. Happily, Momma has already found her forever home - her Good Samaritan rescuer has adopted her!
Being just a puppy Clara has so much to learn! She'll need house training and will need to learn to walk on a leash. She's pretty much crate trained already. We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. These pups love laptime, chew toys, going places and digging! They're always ready for action and love playing chase, tug-o-war and wrestling - they're more than happy to settle down for a nap after all that activity though! Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it!
Clara is an affectionate, playful puppy who loves everyone: kids, cats and other dogs! She would LOVE to have a forever home and family to call her very own. Fill out an application today and this cutie pie might be snuggling her way into your heart!
Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
