Meet gentle, sweet Helen Holly!
Helen and her brother Hank appear to be a Labrador Retriever/Beagle mix about 5 months old. Helen's a playful, affectionate, shy girl who loves squeaky toys, playgroup, games of chase and rough wrestling. She's always ready for action until it's time to chill, then she's more than happy to settle down. She's been crated in the car and did fine. She'll need house training; leash walking and crate training are in the works. She's also learning "sit" and with the promise of treats will be eager to learn more stuff!
We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the pup, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the puppy and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. New situations and new people bring out a bit of Helen's shyness, but she's totally interested. She'll bark to get your attention and like most puppies, when she's playing with other dogs - she'll also need to learn that jumping on guests is not polite. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games.

Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it! So far Helen Holly has only known shelter life and can't imagine that there's a real home somewhere that will be hers forever with all the love and squeaky toys she could ever want. Fill out an application today and make Helen's dreams come true!

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
