This goofy bundle of energy is Ace!
He appears to be a Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix about 2 years old. He's looking for a very active household and wouldn't mind one or more canine siblings who like to play as much as he does! His favorite play style with other dogs is chase, run and romp. He likes kids but because he's so energetic we suggest that a home with bigger kids would be better since he may inadvertently knock down smaller children. Ace is crate trained and walks on a leash. He will need house training. He's eager to please, smart and treat motivated.
We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Though Ace doesn’t necessarily require a fenced yard, he will need lots of daily walks and plenty of opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park, which is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys, busy feeders and games. And Ace LOVES walks, playgroup, squeaky toys and chew toys, as well as meeting new people and seeing new places. But when all of that is done, he's happy to settle down for some lap and cuddle time.
Ace is a great dog who was abandoned at an Ace Hardware store in December. If you're looking for a dog who can keep up with your totally active lifestyle, fill out an application for Ace! He's the one for you!
Medical Note: This dog is being treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections following the American Heartworm Society treatment protocol. The dog will be available for adoption and transport once treatment has been completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, estimated for the end of September. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
