Say HELLO to Koda!
Koda was thought to be an Aussie/Lab mix, but as she's gotten older she now appears to be more a Cocker Spaniel/Border Collie mix, especially with her ears and smaller size. She is about 6 months old and very sweet and very happy - just cute as can be! When she was about 4 1/2 months old she was surrendered to our southern partner with a mild case of Demodex. Her owner wanted her euthanized but the shelter was able to convince the owner to allow her to go into rescue instead. Koda's previous owner stated that she is house trained and was crated at night. Currently she is being kenneled with an inside and outside run - she doesn't like being in the kennel and will try to escape. She's very quick and with her smaller size it doesn't take much of a crack in the door for her to get out. She is like the Energizer Bunny - go, go, go all the time. She will definitely need a very active adopter! She loves being with other dogs and enjoys playing with her kennel-mate. She would love to have a canine sibling! She responds well to the older dogs' corrections - more so than corrections from her human caretaker. She has not met any cats or children but being as sweet as she is, we think she would be fine with children. She settles down well after a good amount of exercise or play. She would appreciate a fenced-in yard, but if one is not an option, she would settle for lots of walks and visits to a dog park for safe off-leash play. Koda is young and needs a good amount of training. Working with a trainer will be best for all. She likes to be busy so toys that help keep her mind busy will be a must, think puzzle games or busy feeders. She would probably excel at agility training. She travels crated, and does tend to get a little car sick, but she is still young and may outgrow it. If not, discuss it with your vet for advice.
Koda is all puppy with lots of energy and will make a great companion for a family who has lots of love, patience, time and energy themselves. She also loves to be petted. If you would like to adopt this beauty, please fill out an application! You will love her!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
