Introducing the one and only - George Gorgeous!
George and his sister Gigi Gorgeous came into rescue with sarcoptic mange and had to be treated at the vet until they were fully recovered. They are both now healthy and Gigi has already found a home of her own, so it's George's turn. He appears to be a Lab mix born around 1/11/17. He has a beautiful red coat with some white and his eyes are a beautiful golden color. He is GORGEOUS! He is very friendly and playful with people - loves meeting new people. He sometimes can be overbearing with other dogs, play biting and rough wrestling; he can be a little wary of new dogs when he is on-leash. His hackles will go up and he'll wrinkle his nose at them. He doesn't get aggressive, he seems unsure - and it's only with some dogs. He listens well and does respond well to correction, especially with treats. He is fairly confident and outgoing, and likes to be loved on as much as he likes to play. He is good with older children, but he has not met any young or small ones. He also has not met any cats as of yet. He is in the process of being crate trained - he doesn't care much for it and will cry and whine for quite awhile when he first goes in, even with treats or a toy to play with. He walks well on a leash without pulling much, but he does zigzag a lot so a short leash, especially around cars, is best. He is working diligently on his house training, and will need an owner who will have the time, energy and patience to continue his training. Like all puppies, he will need obedience training so he will grow up to be a well-behaved, confident and socialized adult dog. He is currently learning "sit" and doing real well! He LOVES treats and toys, especially squeaky toys! He does have a fondness for chewing dog beds and blankets, so appropriate chew items will need to be in abundance.

Medical Note: This dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program, but this dog has since tested negative for demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
