If you are looking for a special goofball, beautiful Bailey Bree might be for you!

Bailey appears to be a Greyhound mix somewhere between 1-3 years old. She has long, lean legs and loving, sweet eyes.

It is hard to explain, and once you spend some time with Bailey, you will understand, but Bailey is not like other dogs.  She has been checked out by several vets and trainers, and our best guess is that she has some congenital cognitive/motor skill deficits, or possibly lost some of these skills due to an infection early in her life.  While this might make her a little slow to pick up on some things, and respond differently than other dogs would, it makes her all the more special to those who take the time to get to know her.

When the mood strikes her, Bailey LOVES to play, run and jump around - it must be the Greyhound in her - and she thoroughly enjoys playing with other dogs outside.  She is submissive to other dogs and her play style can be a little rough and very goofy, so robust dogs larger than 20-30 lbs will make the best playmates for her. Bailey has seen cats and is rather unsure of them; she likely would want to play with a cat housemate over time, if the cat was so inclined.

Bailey has lived with 9- and 13-year old children and did well with them, but she can be mouthy, jump up and be persistent when she wants attention and to play, so a household with mature individuals is likely best for her.  She likes to play with toys and is house trained and crate trained.  She walks well on the leash, but can occasionally put the breaks on if she is unsure of where you are taking her.

When Bailey feels comfortable and frisky, she likes to use her mouth in play and throw her body around.  She lacks some basic coordination, so she should not live in a house filled with delicate items or frail people/animals.

Bailey is most comfortable pottying off leash, so a home with fenced yard/area would be best for her.  She would do well with one or two 30 minute walks a day, or a daily romp session at the dog park with another dog(s).  She would do best living in a home with no other dogs, as she becomes overly hyper/agitated during feeding time (similar to resource guarding, but she does not do this over toys, bones, or treats - just kibble); she does not act this way with kibble towards humans.  Bailey knows "sit", and has acclimated well to the routine in her foster home over the least few months.  Bailey can definitely learn, but she does not seem to learn the same way other dogs do, so while basic training classes would be good for her confidence and bonding with her new people, she might not learn all the skills and/or need for her trainers to think creatively.

Bailey likes treats and rides well in the car.  She usually appears calm while having new experiences and meeting new people, but she does have some internalized anxiety.  A Thundershirt has helped take the edge off at our adoption events, but Bailey would likely prefer to be more of a homebody than a social butterfly with her new family.

Bailey will need a patient and compassionate home - one that understands she needs extra time to understand what is expected of her, to learn any new routine, and that some things she may never understand or respond to the way other dogs do.  She has acclimated well in her foster home, but there will likely be a transition period into her next home where she will need to be consistently reminded of the rules and routine, and given plenty of patience and love during that time.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
