Sadie has a special quietness to her.
She prefers to sit and observe life rather than actively participate but she also LOVES to take walks and hang near her person in the yard. She's an approximately 9 year old pup who looks to be a Shepherd mix. She's house trained and walks well on a leash. She also taught herself how to use a doggie door within two days. She is not fond of a crate, or being left alone, but she can adapt when those experiences are paired with something yummy like a meaty bone. Once she feels comfortable and bonds, she can be affectionate. She is not a cuddle bug, but she does enjoy pets and lounging nearby. If she has access to a fenced yard, it should have a 6-ft. fence, as Sadie is surprisingly adept at climbing fences when motivated.
Sadie rides well in the car and likes to look out the window; she would love to accompany you on your daily errands. She's calm around new people and in new situations. She will bark a few times to alert you if someone is at the door, but then accepts the visitor and is quiet. She would do best living in a home that has lower activity, no children, and few expectations on her. She lived her entire life as an only dog with her previous owner, so she would appreciate being the apple of your eye and not have any other pets in her new home. She does not appreciate hyper/barky/bouncing dogs, and prefers that her personal space of 3-5 feet is respected. She has some resource guarding from people of high value items like meaty bones and treats, but this can be resolved by trading her, or managing the environment so that these things do not need to be taken away from her.
Senior dogs like Sadie can absolutely bond with new humans, but the bonding process is usually longer and slower than with younger dogs. We promise you, though, when you start to bond with this girl it will make it that much more special! Has sweet Sadie stolen your heart?
