Good ole' Eddie Baroo is a survivor.
He was found on the roadside without a friend to claim him and we think that he may have been "hit" by something in his past since he shows some historical signs of injury. Despite all that, he hasn't let his sad story affect him physically or emotionally. He's lovable and loving to all persons, dogs and cats! And he might occasionally have a goofy walk but his old injury doesn't seem to bother him one bit. He runs and plays with dogs of all sizes and temperaments - and he can play rough - without any problems. And we love him and his goofiness all the same because none of that impacts his big dog heart. He is interested and happy to see new faces be it human or dog faces. And he loves new adventures. His caretaker says he gets cuter and stronger by the day - such a loving little dog, and so smart, too! He doesn't jump if it requires his back legs - he does do a lot of jumping with just his front legs. He needs someone to pick him up and put him on the couch, unless there's a ramp which he'll scoot up in a heartbeat!
Eddie Baroo is working on his house training, crate training and leash walking skills, but he could use some obedience classes to help with that process. Plus, obedience classes will strengthen the bond between Eddie Baroo and his new furever family. He has a moderate amount of energy and will need to burn that off, so we think a yard would be great for Eddie Baroo, but even without, he'd love to take walks with his new human family members and would be great for visits to the dog park too. As is typical of many beagle types, Eddie Baroo can be a bit exuberant in dog conversation and vocal, but he does understand the meaning of "no" and we hope that when he finds his forever home, he'll settle down a bit. But we think it's part of his charm. When he's happy, he spins around in circles and his little butt squirms and twists!

Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine). Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
Medical Note: Eddie was found as a stray with a healed old hip injury. The orthopedic specialist who examined Eddie on 4/8/2018 believes he should have no future problems from this injury history other than some mild arthritis which could be well managed with a non-steroid such as Rimadyl. Currently he shows no signs of pain nor discomfort. There is no damage to either of his femoral heads, and there is no bone on bone movement; both back legs and hips have smooth motion without any grinding. No treatment or surgery is recommended at this time, nor expected in the future beyond pain management for arthritis. He will likely always walk a little bit crooked and will probably never be able to jump. He gets up and down stairs just fine, however, and is a happy dog! As with all dogs with any history of bone/joint injuries, we recommend keeping Eddie on a glucosamine chondroitin supplement for life.
