Meet Whispering Wind!
She is such a sweet girl with uniquely beautiful eyes - blue and brown! She may be a bit shy when you first meet her, but she quickly warms up to new people and animals; "reserved but friendly" is a great way to describe her. She's very affectionate, cuddly and eager to please. Whispering Wind is one of 40 dogs who came to our Arkansas partner shelter last year from a poverty case. She came to the shelter when she was a year old and pregnant, and since then has not known much life outside of the shelter. Fortunately, our shelter partner has fabulous staff who have taken her on walks and included her in playgroups to give her some regular exercise and continue enhancing her social skills. Much of the human environment will likely be very new to her. Whispering Wind is crate trained and walks well on a leash, and with some consistent practice (plus plenty of praise and treats for a reward!) she's sure to master house training as well. She's proven to be very obedient and respectful of commands. We'd recommend that her new human companions provide her with regular exercise and a structured routine. Group training classes are also a great idea for any dog - they're excellent for bonding with your furry friend and giving your new pet an opportunity to socialize with other pups.
While Whispering Wind is a bit timid and cautious to new situations and experiences, we are confident that with some time, patience and positive associations, she will become a fabulous companion to her furever family. Fill out an application today and meet Whispering Wind!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange in March while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange:

We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
