Abbey Kid is such an affectionate puppy!
She is one of the girls in the Kid litter, who appear to be a Labrador Retriever mix born some time in early April. She LOVES attention and being with people - she follows her foster mom everywhere, and does well with other dogs, big and small - and kitty cats, too! She's a sweet, friendly pup who would most likely be fine with children. She is a bit timid at first, but is playful once she settles in. She is totally house trained, and is working on her leash walking - she is still getting used to all the things she encounters, and so she tends to pull. She is left loose with her foster siblings and does fine - not at all destructive. She hasn't had any obedience training yet, but seems willing to learn so classes with her new human(s) is a must do! It'll be so much fun to learn cool stuff together while Abbey works on socialization and building confidence. While a fenced yard is the ideal safe place for your pup to run and play, if that's not an option then daily leash walks with opportunities to play off-leash at a dog park will do just fine. She rides quietly in the car, but waits until everyone else has hopped in before she takes her turn.
Abbey Kid is looking for a forever home with a family who will be into lavishing lots of attention on her as well as having fun. Does this sound like your home? Fill out an application today and this sweet, affectionate girl just may be curling up soon on the couch beside you!
The Kid Pups Story: Abbey and her siblings were born to a Lab mix in Mississippi and a friend of our Arkansas rescue partner agreed to foster mom and pups. They remained with the foster until early July when they were moved into a kennel situation, where they continue to do very well.
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange:

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
