Meet Kami! This sweet, cuddly puppy appears to be a Boxer/Hound mix, about 8 months old. She's a fun-loving dog who is so playful and affectionate. A typical puppy, Kami is curious and energetic -- she loves to meet new friends (dogs, cats and humans of all ages) and go for a ride in the car, seeking adventure! She loves to go for walks, chew on her squeaky toys, play fetch, and chase after other pups. After running around and getting tired, Kami really enjoys relaxing and snuggling -- she may be growing bigger every day, but she certainly thinks of herself as a lap pet! Being just a puppy, Kami has so much to learn, but she is a very smart dog and diligently working on her training. She walks well on a leash, is practicing her house training and crate training, and is working on learning to sit on command. She's already mastered "bring it" and "give it," and she's very food- and treat-motivated, so we really think she'll catch on quickly. As with any new pet, particularly a puppy, we'd recommend that Kami and her new human(s) attend some obedience training classes together. It's a great way to help reinforce her new skills, while giving you an opportunity to bond as a family. Plus, it's so much fun to have more puppy playtime! Kami will surely make a great companion. Fill out an application and come meet her soon!
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g. transport, transition to a new home, change in food, et.c). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine). Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
Medical Note: Kami also has a history of three periods of lameness in her right leg after exercise. There have been no recent episodes after switching her food to large breed puppy. Also, her X-rays have shown normal growth, so it is expected that this was a result of "growing pains" aka Panosteitis.
