Sanders absolutely LOVES to run!
This gorgeous girl is HIGHLY active! We're thinking she's a Border Collie mix and true to that breed, she needs an adopter who can keep up with her! A minimum or 2-4 hours/day of exercise with mental stimulation is a must! She's totally into hiking, running, long walks or short brisk walks, going places and meeting new people! Once she and her new human(s) have been through basic obedience training, we're sure she'll excel at advanced training like agility. Puzzle toys and games are great ways to keep that canine mind busy!
Sanders is house trained, but has not yet had any crate training (she's been confined to a small room instead) or leash training. She's great with other dogs and kitties. Though she's good with kids, because she's so energetic and still working on learning not to jump up she's best with older children. She's great in the car so she can be your errand buddy and road trip sidekick! If you're looking for a canine companion that will push the exercise boundaries with you, Sanders' your girl! Fill out an application today and her people will get right back to you!
Sanders' Backstory: Sanders was rescued by an individual in Arkansas about a year ago and when she was found to be HW +, all the rescues refused to take her. Our Arkansas partner brought her into their program this winter and started her treatment just before Christmas of 2018.
Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
