Kyra Katana (Kyra - rhymes with sky-ra) is a beautiful and smart young lady!
We are thinking she is a Labrador Retriever mix. She is a playful, eager-to-please, even tempered, and affectionate girl. Her foster mom says she is a "wiggle butt" and has the cutest smile! She is house trained, crate trained, and leash training is in progress. She loves playing with other dogs or with you! She does great in the car either tethered or in a crate, and would love to join you on an outing or a walk. She loves her toys and is happy to chill with a ball when she is not playing with you! She is currently living with a foster family with two children, ages 7 and 11, and she is great with them, but we don’t know how she is around younger kids. We also don’t know how she is around cats.

Gentle and goofy, Kyra is quiet unless she is playing with other dogs or she'll bark to get your attention. She is toy and treat motivated so training classes will be lots of fun! Kyra Katana’s story: She was found as a stray in Pearland, Texas and is now living with a loving foster family.

Medical Note: Kyra had the very unfortunate luck of having her leg/hip injured while in foster care in the winter of 2020. After exam and xrays, Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery was suggested as her best chance of resuming normal use of her leg and leading a normal life. This surgery was completed on 1/28/2020, and her surgeon has high hopes for a full recovery. More than two months post-op now, Kyra is recovering very nicely. Her exercise was gradually increased over time, and her muscle mass is rebuilding nicely. Once fully recovered from this surgery (about 4-12 months), she's expected to be able to lead a full, active life and no further surgery or medical intervention is expected to be necessary for this injury. Daily exercise (both cardio and muscle tone exercises) and in-home massage and stretching is recommended for at least the next four months to help her regain as much range of motion and muscle as possible. As a dog ages, natural wear and tear on the joints can be expected. Dogs like Kyra who have a history of orthopedic issues/injuries are no different, and are potentially at a greater risk of developing arthritis and/or new or related injuries as they age and go through life.
