Come sail away with Sailor!

This girl is super affectionate and loves to play! We are thinking this beauty is a Collie and Great Pyrenees mix. Sailor is a new mom and recently weaned five happy and healthy puppies.

She can be a little timid and shy especially when meeting new people or going new places but quickly settles in. We think she would do best in a calm and relatively quiet household. She loves playing with other dogs and doesn’t seem to mind cats. She would make a great addition to a household as the only dog or as a new buddy to other family dogs. We hear her previous foster had an eight-year-old boy who Sailor was playful with however she is currently not living with children, but think she will be ok with kids as she is so gentle and even-tempered.

Sailor is house trained and crate trained, but does need a little work on her leash skills as she sometimes pulls and zigzags. She is calm and well behaved in the car and would love to go for a ride with you! She is a quiet girl but you might hear her bark to get your attention.

A fenced yard would be ideal so she could run and play safely, but if that's not available she will need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience course would be great for Sailor; it will help teach her good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and her human.

Sailor is a warmhearted girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!

Sailor’s Story: She was rescued from a puppy mill before she was 6 months old. She was not spayed and her owners also had an unaltered male which resulted in her litter. Her owner is moving and can only take one dog and decided to take the male and looked for assistance in finding homes for Sailor and her pups. All but one of her ‘Ocean’ pups have been adopted.

Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
