Oscar is a playful and sensitive boy!
He is also affectionate, smart, and very handsome! We are not sure of his breed but think he may be an Australian Shepherd mix. He is cautiously friendly when meeting new people with a wagging tail, but can be apprehensive of new places, as well as being handled. We don’t think he has had any training and probably has been exposed to very limited situations so his new adopters should be prepared to go slow with him and be very aware of his comfort level as he experiences new things and places. His adopter also needs to be prepared to give him regular exercise, a structured routine, and work with him on basic commands and manners. He will need support with socialization and may never be a social butterfly dog who likes to go everywhere with his human but rather prefer to stay in familiar surroundings. His adopters should be prepared to take him to group training classes starting shortly after adoption, and couple all of his new experiences with lots of praise and treats.
Oscar is always ready for action but does settle after activity, preferably with one of his favorite toys. He is just getting started on leash training and will need some work in this area. He is very strong and will pull, and he often bites at the leash which can be a sign of excitement or lack of familiarity. His adopter will want to be sure- footed and also prepared to work on all his leash manners and at Oscar's pace, so that eventually walks can be pleasant and enjoyable for everyone. He is ideally looking for an adult human companion and home that matches his energy level well, and is also sensitive and responsive to his needs for exercise and increased socialization. Looking for a sweet boy to train as your running partner? If so, he may be the dog for you!
Oscar’s foster mom here in Rhode Island says he is super cuddly, like a giant lap dog that loves to snuggle on the sofa, sleep in bed, and gives lots of kisses! He loves dogs, is respectful, and moderates his play and play style with different sized dogs, but he should be introduced to new dogs slowly. Oscar is good with kids, but we don’t yet know how he is with cats. He is fully housetrained but should not be left alone in the house as he may be destructive if he gets bored. He loves going on car rides and think he would be a good running partner, but does pull on the leash. He is a pretty quiet boy but does like to bark when playing. We think he would do best in a relatively calm household without too much foot traffic and would definitely benefit from a well-balanced canine companion in his new home. He loves hanging out on the grass and a fenced yard would be ideal for this playful boy.

Oscar's Story: We don’t know a lot about him other than he was picked up by Animal Control in Arkansas and is now living with a loving foster family here in Rhode Island.
