Janet is a sweet girl!
She is also beautiful, even-tempered, playful, and smart. We are thinking she is a Labrador Retriever and Coonhound mix. She has lived in a shelter for a long time and we so don’t know how she will do in a household. A potential adopter will need to keep this in mind and go slow, work on socialization, give her plenty of exercise, and provide training and structure as she transitions from life in a shelter to life in a forever home. She is at higher risk of having separation anxiety, resource guarding, stranger danger, and/or leash reactivity when placed in a home environment. She would do best in a low-key household without much foot traffic, no children, and lots of patience and treats! She loves playing with dogs her size and smaller, but hasn’t been exposed to dogs smaller than about 35 pounds. We don’t yet know how she is around cats. She has met kids over 7 years old and is great with them, but we don’t know if she has lived with kids.
Looking for a walking or running partner? If so, Janet is the dog for you! She does great on the leash and loves meeting people. She is always ready for action and also cool to chill with one of her toys. She is quiet and calm in the crate, but we don’t know if she is house trained.
Janet is an active and happy girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!
Janet’s story: She was found with her four siblings on a scenic road that is protected by the National Park Service. Nobody lives on this road so most of the time when dogs are found there, they were likely abandoned. The fearless fivesome were taken to a loving shelter and are doing great. Two of her brothers have been adopted and now it’s Janet’s turn to find her forever home.
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
