Wiley Coyote is a shy guy

He is also sweet, gentle, and playful. While his name is similar to a famous cartoon character, this boy is smart! We are thinking Wiley is a Cattle dog mix.

He loves to play with dogs once he gets to know them. With new dogs he is shy at first but give him some time and he will be their new best friend. He respects cats and tends to avoid them. As for us humans, he is also very shy at first but quickly warms up. With kids he is shy at first but then wants to sit on their laps and run around and play! A relatively calm, low foot traffic household with no young children would be best for Wiley. He would be ok with older kids if they are relatively calm and respectful of a new dog in the home. He may also benefit from another well-balanced calm dog in a household who could show him the ropes of living in a home and be a buddy for him to play with. He loves toys especially ones that squeak!

Wiley is housetrained, crate trained, and walks pretty good on the leash, but will sometimes pull. He is a quiet boy that rarely barks.  He is a calm guy and is good in the car, but sometimes it is hard to coax him in and out.

We don’t know if Wiley has lived in a household and a potential adopter will need to keep this in mind and go slow, work on socialization, give him plenty of exercise, and structure. A fenced yard would be ideal so Wiley could run and play safely, but if that's not available he'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience course is a must with Wiley; it will help teach him good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human.

Wiley is a sweet and happy boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family!

Wiley’s Story: We think he has been a stray for over one year. He was very difficult to catch as he was so fearful and timid. He slowly warmed up to a family who he learned to trust who caught him and brought him to a loving shelter where he is doing great!

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
