Oz Gilmore loves the great outdoors!
He is also affectionate, gentle and playful. We are thinking this handsome boy is as Australian Shepherd mix. Oz and his sister Sassy are sweet pups looking for forever homes.
Oz is probably the most dominant of the two, but he’s not aggressive about it, he’s just much bigger than than his sister. He’s a calm pup, however, maybe a bit on the shy side. His foster mom calls him her big baby. He never jumps up out of excitement, but tries to get very close for cuddles. He is always very eager to greet his foster mom when she comes home. He’s very affectionate towards people. He’s got a lot of love and rarely needs to be corrected.
Oz is house trained and crate training and leash training are in progress and so far, so good! He loves playing with other dogs but does tend to chase cats. We don’t know how he is with kids and don’t recommend him for a household with children unless they are relatively calm and respectful of a new dog in the home.
A fenced yard would be ideal so Oz could run and play safely, but if that's not available he'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience course would be great for Oz; it will help teach good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human.
Oz would love to find a forever family that has lots of time and patience to raise a puppy properly, and who has lots of extra time for loving and cuddles. If you are looking for a puppy, Oz (or Sassy) may be perfect for you! Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family.
Gilmore pup’s story: They come from a litter of eight born into a loving foster family.
Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
