Ozzy is a sweet and friendly boy!

He is also playful, gentle, and even-tempered. We are thinking Ozzy is a German Shepherd and Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. Catahoula’s are a popular working dog in Louisiana where they are the official state dog.

This playful boy loves other dogs and tends to ignore cats but we don’t yet know how he is with children. He is still a pup and is working on house training, crate training and leash training and think he should pick up these skills quickly as seems to be a smart boy. He is a quiet pup who rarely barks.

A fenced yard would be ideal so Ozzy could run and play safely, but if that's not available he'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience class would be great for him; it will help teach him good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human.

Ozzy is a playful and happy boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family!

Ozzy’s story: He was found as a stray. His finder loves Ozzy but already has dogs of her own. She has agreed to foster Ozzy and continue his training while we find him a forever home.

Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine).

Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741.

Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
