Kari wants to be your new best friend!

This sweet and gentle girl wants to play and loves to be petted!  We are thinking Kari is about two years old. She was a new mom this last fall; all of her happy and healthy puppies have found great New England homes; now it is Kari's turn!

Kari sometimes acts a little shy when meeting new people or going new places but quickly settles and is ready to be petted!  We don’t know how she is with kids, but since she is so gentle and even-tempered, we think she would acclimate well to older kids over time. She  is calm when she sees, and is around (socially distanced!) other dogs, but would prefer to live as your one and only at home so she can get all of your attention.  From  what we can see, she seems only mildly interested in cats but this has not been proven .   She has been living in a home for the last few months and has adapted very nicely. She is affectionate with her people and enjoys her routine. Since she was found as a stray, and COVID has prevented most visitors and excursions, her potential adopter should plan to work on socialization slowly and steadily in the first 6-12 months after adoption.

Kari is housetrained and walks pretty well on the leash but could use a little more practice. A fenced yard would be ideal so she could run and play safely like she loves to do in her current foster home, but if that's not available she'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area.

An obedience course is a must with Kari; it will help teach her good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and her human.

Kari is a gentle soul who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!

Kari's backstory: She was pregnant when she was found by one of our southern partner shelters. She gave birth to her puppies shortly after being taken into a loving foster family’s home.

Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741.

Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine).

Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
