The Nuts & Berries Pups are extra sweet!

These playful puppies are ready to be your new best friend! The pups are an interesting mix – we are thinking their mom is a Boxer and American Pitbull Terrier mix and their dad an Australian Shepherd mix. This large litter is made up of four beautiful girls – Macadamia, Gooseberry, Loganberry, and Pistachio and six handsome boys – Almond, Cashew, Filbert, Peanut, Pecan, and Thimbleberry.

T he pups have not been socialized with many people, other than their loving foster moms, and thus are shy and timid when meeting new people and other dogs. They are very playful with each other and think they will learn to trust humans as they spend more time with us. Our southern rescue partner that is assisting in finding homes for these precious pups is working on a plan to have volunteers (with kids) visit and play with them. Potential adopters should be prepared to go slow and work on socialization in moderation with them the first 3-6 months. We think they would do best in a relatively calm and quiet household.

Like all pups they need work on housetraining, crate training, and leash training and think they will pick up these skills quickly as they seem very intelligent. The pups are pretty quiet but you might hear them bark when playing. All the Nuts & Berries pups are eager to please, toy and treat motivated little squirts, so puppy training classes will be lots of fun!

Macadamia would love to find a forever family that has lots of time and patience to raise a puppy properly, and who has lots of extra time for loving and cuddles. If you are looking for a puppy, Macadamia (or one of her littermates) may be perfect for you! Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!

Nuts & Berries Pups’ story: The litter was unplanned from the owner’s female and the neighbor’s male. The pup’s mom has been spayed to prevent another litter.

Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
