Mabel is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states.

This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

Mabel is a sweet, goofy snuggle-bug!
This girl is affectionate and loves to play with toys as well as snuggle on the couch. We are thinking this beauty is a Shepherd and Hound mix about two years old.

Mabel loves everyone she meets! She is an active girl who sometimes jumps out of excitement, so may be too much for very young children, or people who are unstable on their feet, but she is ALL LOVE for us humans! We think this girl would do best in a household as an only pet. She has been known to chase cats, so she is looking for a small-animal-free home.

Mabel is house trained, crate trained, and non-destructive when left home alone. She sleeps through the night on her own dog bed at the foot of her human's bed. She is a pretty quiet young lady in general but will alert bark out of the house windows when she sees other dogs walk by (privacy film works great!). A lower density neighborhood would be best for her, as she has some dog/leash reactivity, and she would thrive with daily sniffy and adventure time in open spaces without other dogs. A fenced yard would be ideal so she could run and play safely, but if that's not available she will need daily leash walks. She walks very nicely on a Gentle Leader harness as long as she doesn't see other dogs. The rest of her days, she would be content to spend snoozing on the sofa or at her person's feet while they work from home, garden in the yard, sniffy games or watching movies.

Mabel was born to please and love and is a joy to train. She has had some obedience training, but another course will help her and her person bond and communicate. She would also thrive with private one-on-one training to work further on her out-and-about dog social skills.

Mabel is a warmhearted girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? To learn more about her, check out this video! Then fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!

Mabel’s Story: An Arkansas family adopted her from someone giving her away, only to find out later that she was pregnant. SOSARL was called to help, and sweet Mabel was adopted in 2020 after she weaned eight happy and healthy puppies (who have also been adopted and are thriving in their new homes). Her Rhode Island human mom is now unfortunately moving to a dense urban environment that would not be a good fit for Mabel, so we are looking for a new home for her.

Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine).

Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741.

Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
