Banjo would make a great family dog!
This boy is affectionate and loves to play! We are thinking this handsome dude is a Labrador Retriever mix about 1-year-old.
He is friendly with other dogs and while he doesn’t live with cats tends to ignore the ones he has met. Banjo would make a great addition to a household as the only dog or as a new buddy to other family dogs. As for us humans he loves all of us, including kids, and is playful with his foster parents’ toddler grandson.
Banjo is currently being house trained and crate trained and is almost there, but does need some more practice. He walks pretty good on the leash but pulls a little and would love to join you on a walk or hike. He likes toys and prefers one that he can chew versus ones that squeak. Banjo is a quiet boy who rarely barks.
A fenced yard would be ideal so he can run and play safely, but if that's not available he will need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience course is a must for Banjo; it will help teach him good manners and commands, increase his confidence, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human.
Banjo is a warmhearted boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family!
Banjo’s Story: We don’t know much about this playful boy other than he was found as a stray. He is now living with a loving foster family and doing great!
Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine).
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741.
Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
