Watson DNA is one handsome puppy!
Just like your genome Watson is ready to be central to your life! This sweet boy is friendly and affectionate, although he tends to be a little shy in new situations or meeting new people at first. He just needs a little time to get comfortable and in no time you'll see his personality start to bloom. Compared with his littermate Crick, Watson is quicker to settle and more outgoing. He is playful and respectful with other dogs, so would do well in a home that already has a friendly and confident dog(s) in the family or would also be okay as the only dog. We can't promise how he will do with cohabiting cats, but he was interested, playful, and able to be redirected when meeting a new cat. He seems to have a moderate activity level; he will enjoy a good squeaky toy, some fun games of chase or wrestling, but also is happy to chill and have some quality lap time and cuddles.

We strongly encourage basic obedience training for all our puppies, as it not only helps your puppy blossom into a well balanced canine citizen with good manners but it also helps to form a lasting bond between your puppy and the humans in your family. Adopters should plan to spend plenty of time playing with your new puppy, training him in basic commands, tricks, and skills like leash-, crate-, and house training, socializing them with new situations and dogs, and giving them plenty of free play and working play (like pack walks). Watson's current foster has noted that Watson tends to food guard from his littermate, so this will probably need to be worked on with training when he is brought into his new home.

Though Watson doesn’t necessarily require a fenced yard, he will need lots of daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash. A tired dog is a good dog! Please note that in new situations Watson may try to escape out of initial fear before settling in, so his adopters should keep this in mind when first bringing him home to keep him safe.

Watson's Backstory: Watson was a stray that was found in Arkansas when he and his littermate Crick showed up at someone's house. The person was unable to locate an owner so they were brought into the rescue and are making their way up North for their forever homes!

Demodectic Mange Tested positive
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their vet- erinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on de- modectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic- in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and dis- cuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
