Henry is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states.
Henry is a wonderful, rambunctious, sweet, energetic dog. He is a handsome devil looking to be someone's partner in crime in all of life's adventures.
Like all of his littermates (the Tex-Mex litter), Henry has an intense personality, and does almost everything with gusto: swimming in the ocean waves, training to a perfect "t", sniffing out the last treat in a noseworks game, chewing a meaty bone, destroying each and every fluffy toy.
Henry is outgoing and believes himself to be a social butterfly - he wants to meet the entire world, most especially other dogs and can get frustrated when there are people or dogs at a distance that he is not allowed to meet close up. A lot of progress has been made in this area, and will need to be continued in his new home. When meeting people, he can sometimes be too rambunctious, so he is likely not the best fit right now for small children or anyone frail/unsteady, though he enjoys the company of all types of people.
When playing with other dogs, Henry can be very energetic. Depending upon the dog playmate, he may need help in knowing when it is time to take a break. He likes to play fetch and will bring the ball back. He also likes Kong toys with food treats inside. Despite his energetic play, Henry can also chill very nicely in the house while you work (although this is more difficult if there is the distraction and activity of another dog around). Henry likes to be in whatever room his person is in, but he has also been very tolerant being left alone loose in his bedroom for up to 4 hours at a time; he has not been destructive or loud. Henry has a loud deep bark but he does not usually bark when at home; he can bark when playing. He might bark if he hears something unfamiliar but will stop with prompting.
Henry knows many basic commands already, and is working on more advanced ones like mat work. He responds extremely well to calm, kind, patient requests, treats and other positive reinforcement. He definitely wants to please, and will need continued guidance through his adolescence to become the amazing adult he is destined to be.
To meet his needs for daily fun and work, Henry would love for his days to include a mixture of exercise, lots of mental stimulation and games, command training and practice (to perfect his commands and teach him new ones), and new experiences and adventures to keep up his social skills and continue to make progress on his ability to moderate his arousal. Henry is solidly house trained, and walks very nicely on an Easy-Walk harness.
If you want a companion that will be happy to see you when you come home and will always be interested in what you are doing, Henry might be your guy. His size and deep voice could provide extra security for someone living alone. Does Henry sound like your missing piece? If so, please fill out an application today!
Henry's Back Story: Henry was placed in a loving RI adoptive home for several months where he has learned many life skills. Unfortunately, his unusually high prey drive combined with the presence of three resident cats, has led him to look for a new place to call home.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
