This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Meet Calliope! She is about 3 years old and looks to be a hound mix. She is a very sweet dog, even-tempered, gentle, and calm.
Our lovable Calliope came to us after being found by a supporter. She had been shot in the leg, and had the leg amputated in June 2020. Dogs with three legs are known as a "tripod" and are more prone to arthritis. After recovering from her amputation surgery, she began treatment for heartworm. We are pleased to say that Calliope has now made a full recovery and is doing so well. Despite having three legs, she gets around easily (check out the video!) and loves going for walks and playing with other pup friends.
Calliope hasn't met any children yet, so we are not sure how she would do in a home with kids, but she loves meeting new adults and is very friendly and outgoing. She's relatively quiet and rarely barks. Calliope likes going for rides in the car (she's very calm and content to be loose in the car), going new places and meeting new friends. Calliope walks well on a leash and is quiet and clean in her crate. She's working on her housetraining, but since she is very intelligent, and eager to please, we're confident that she can master this soon with some practice. She's also treat-motivated and toy-motivated, which can help with the training process. After getting some exercise (generally 1-2 hours per day would be good, but not necessarily continuously), she can't wait to cuddle and relax.
Calliope is an affectionate and resilient dog. She's come a long way and is ready to find her forever home!
Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
