Winter is a laidback gal!
This beautiful girl is a playful couch potato, gentle, and smart. She is a recent new mom of ten healthy puppies (Winter litter adopted earlier this year). We are thinking Winter is a Labrador Retriever mix around 3 years old. Winter’s foster mom says she loves to cuddle, sleep in her bed, play, and be active with kids and family.
She is friendly with everyone she meets including her foster family’s two respectful kids (ages 4 and 7). Winter loves other dogs and is great friends with her foster’s family dog. She seems ok with cats but she is known to chase them. She is a laid-back girl that would likely settle in well to a household with frequent visitors, or a more quiet one.
Winter is housetrained and walks well on the leash but she is not crate trained. She is a little over-weight and will need regular exercise to get her back to her weight before she had her pups of about 50 pounds. She rides great in the car and would love to join you for an adventure.
A fenced yard would be ideal so Winter could run and play safely, but if that's not available she'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. We recommend that you and Winter sign up for some dog training classes together, ideally in the first 45 days or so of bringing her home. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.
Winter is a playful and happy girl who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make her dream come true? Fill out an application today and let her know that you'd love to have her join your family!
Winter’s story: We don’t know a lot about this playful girl other than she was found as a pregnant stray.
Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics.
