Say Hi to Winifred (aka Win)!

Win is a friendly, sweet, and happy girl that can't wait to meet you!  We are thinking Win is a Bulldog mix (with maybe some Great Dane or Mastiff) but we do know she is 100% adorable!

We think Win was not well socialized and thus would do best in a home with an existing well-balanced dog, or dogs, who could show her the ropes of living in a household and be a buddy for her to play with. A low foot-traffic home with no young children and sensitive / patient adopters committed to helping her build confidence at her pace would be best for this playful girl. Adopters should be prepared for training as well as increasing passive socialization over the first 3-6 months, and also likely some behavioral work in the first 6-12 months.

Win loves all of us humans and have lived with 10+ year old children in the past and was playful with them, but currently does not live with kids. She is a shy girl that may bark when meeting new people, but will settle after some pets and maybe a few treats! She loves other dogs and might bark initially and then settles to play. She is house trained, crate trained, and walks great on the leash. Looking for a walking or hiking partner, if so, Win is the dog for you!

Win will make a great adventure buddy in low traffic places. She seems to have a moderate energy level, so she will enjoy some quality outdoor time going for walks or playing in the yard, but will also look forward to some cuddle time as she is very affectionate.

Hocus Pocus pups’ story: They were found dumped in a rural area of Arkansas known for this sort of behavior, and luckily a nearby good Samaritan found them and took them in. They are eagerly awaiting loving forever families in New England to make them forget this previous abandonment.

Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
