This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

Say hello to this handsome little man, Sage! We are thinking he is Chihuahua mix about 2-years-old. Sage and his brothers Basil and Thyme were living outside with a Chiweenie female, Rosemary (all four available on SOS). The foursome was owned by an elderly woman in the south that recently became unable to adequately care for them and she contacted a rescue organization to assist in finding them forever homes.

Sage is sweet and playful with everyone he meets but may act a little shy at first, but give him some time and he will be your new best friend. We don’t know how he is with kids but think he could likely thrive in a home with young children if they are relatively quiet / respectful and introduced properly. Sage would make a great addition to a household as the only dog or as a new buddy to other family dogs. Sage is a lap dog who loves sitting on his human's lap and cuddle. He will use his paw to indicate that he wants belly rubs and pets.

Sage is working on housetraining and recently completed crate training and walking on the leash, what a smart boy! Ideally, Sage’s forever home won't be too chaotic with lots of visitors.

A fenced yard would be great so he could run and play safely, but if that's not available he will need daily leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. We recommend that you and Sage sign up for some dog training classes together, ideally in the first 30 days or so of bringing him home. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.

Medical Note:  Sage has been under treatment for a corneal ulcer. The condition is improving but may take some time to fully heal. The  ophthalmologist  is optimistic that the scarring is not in a location that should affect his vision long term. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
