Cagney Camptown is ready to snuggle!
This sweet girl was found as a stray with her buddy Lacey Camptown in rural Arkansas. Before coming up to RI Cagney was living in a small kennel with a caretaker who cares for the pups twice a day to give them love, attention, and exercise. The kennel has a large fenced area for the resident pups to run and play with together. Cagney is now being fostered locally in a loving foster home where she is working on crate, leash, and house training. Her house training is going great with no accidents yet! Cagney currently has a tendency to jump up for hugs and pets but this is actively being worked on in her new foster home. At this time we are unsure how she will do with cats as they have not been introduced to her yet in our care but are not anticipating any specific issues. She has met children and been friendly and playful with them.
It will be easy to fall in love quick, Cagney is affectionate, outgoing, goofy, and playful. Some of her favorite activities include going for walks or runs, playing fetch, cuddling up on the couch, and playing with toys. When playing with other dogs, her play styles are bitey-mouth and chase although she can be a little shy but friendly when meeting new dogs. You may hear her bark while playing or at other dogs. Since Cagney is interested in going new places and calm in the car, she will enjoy attending group training classes so she can learn basic commands, build her confidence, improve on her socializing skills with other humans and dogs, and strengthen the bond with her new parent(s). Cagney is very food motivated and eager to please so she will likely pick up her new skills quickly with consistency and patience. Cagney is also showing some signs of separation anxiety, she has been without a family for so long that she gets sad when they leave for the day for work and is destructive in her crate, so learning to be alone for small blocks of time is also being worked on in her foster home.

Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741.
