Meet Sammy Doc!

This handsome boy is a sweet, fun loving, and happy pup. We are thinking Sammy, who also goes by Sam, is a Lab mix with a shiny black coat.

Sam is currently living with a loving foster family and doing great. He loves having someone to play with, either another dog or you! He loves meeting people but may act a bit shy at first but give this playful boy a little time and he will be your new best friend. In a previous foster home, he was friendly with his foster parents 4-year-old grandson, but he currently doesn’t live with kids. He loves toys, especially ones that squeak.

Sam is house trained, crate trained and learning to walk on the leash is in progress. He is a pretty quiet guy, but you might hear him bark when playing or when he thinks he needs to get your attention.

A fenced yard would be ideal so Sam could run and play safely, but if that's not available he'll need lots of leash walks and opportunities for off-leash play in a fenced area. An obedience course is a must for Sam; it will help teach him good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human...as well as keep his smart mind finely tuned and exercised!

Sam is a happy boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family!

Sam’s story: Sam and his sister Dolly (also available on SOS) were part of a larger litter found abandoned by some teens. The teens found homes for all the pups except Sam and Dolly and turned to a rescue organization for help in finding them forever homes.

Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
