Star Atmosphere is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states.

This handsome hunk is Star Atmosphere!  We are thinking he's an American bulldog mix, with a beautiful blonde coat and a SOLID stature!

Star appears to be your classic goofy, rough-and-tumble puppy...but almost fully grown at 65lbs!  He is fun-loving, affectionate, curious, and playful. He loves chasing and wrestling with toys, and also likes going for rides in the car.  Due to several conflicts between Star and other resident dogs early on, Star lived most of his  puppyhood not fully integrated into a home. He has had leash walks with multiple dogs and done well, as well as been around the resident children in small doses.  As such, he is still learning about the home environment (eg, he saw carpeted stairs for the first time yesterday and while he was unsure at first, he quickly got the hang of them)!   In new places, Star seems to get his bearings quickly, though, and focuses on exploring immediately.

As with all puppies but even more importantly because of his size, Star is going to need some immediate help with his basic skills and manners, like house training, crate training, loose leash walking, and simple commands (sit, stay, etc.). Fortunately, he seems to be smart and treat motivated, and is making good progress, but he may always be the bull-in-China-shop-type dog.   We're confident that with the right human(s) who are able to give him the time and patience he needs for training, Star will catch on quickly. A group training class would also be a great way to help reinforce his skills, pick up some training tips, and get some bonus socialization time with other humans and furry friends.

Star has not yet been observed living with other animals or young children and is not recommended for children at this time since he be so exuberant in his play and greetings.  As we gather more information and work with him further, we will update his bio, but for right now, we are looking for a home with no other pets and no children for Star.

Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741

Medical Note: This dog tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean that this dog had ehrlichia. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ehrlichiosis_(canine) .

Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about these conditions and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see   HERE   for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
