Say hello to his royal highness, the Duke of Lessie Moore! Duke is a very sweet, well-behaved, and fun-loving little guy. We're thinking he's a Rat Terrier mix and probably between 1-2 years old but seems mature for his age. He's been in a busy foster home for a few weeks now with adults, children, cats, and dogs and seems to be adapting well, so we think he'd be a great addition to a similarly active home. Duke would be perfect to bring along on fun adventures with his new humans because he's a champ in the car and loves to meet new people. He is great with kids and loves saying hi to everyone he meets! Duke would love to play fetch in the park, go for long walks, or play with other furry friends.
Duke is wise beyond his years and he's already great at walking on a leash, quiet and calm in his crate, and so far, hasn't had any accidents in his foster home. He might need to spend some time working on his "house manners" (he loves to jump on the furniture and raid the garbage), but Duke is a smart boy, very even-tempered and eager to please, which all add up to a cooperative and trainable dog. We think he'll be a quick learner and with a little practice (plus some dog training classes, which are always a good idea when bringing a new dog home), he'll catch on in no time.
Duke's story: He is named Duke of Lessie Moore as he spent his day at Lessie Moore Elementary in Louisiana the day a rescue picked him up. The rescue recognized him as being on a lost and found board a few times and was reclaimed by his owner at the nearby animal shelter. The shelter was contacted, and they provided the number of the owner. The rescue called him, and he was crying telling them that he just picks dogs up as he can’t see them on the streets. He shared that Duke was his son's dog, but he was taken to jail and rehab and would not be returning. The owner also explained that he was leaving the next day and would be gone for 20 days and he could not take Duke back and would have to surrender him. Duke is now with a foster and doing great!
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
