Smokey Joe is a 5 month old scruffy terrier mix puppy looking for his forever home. He and his littermate, Ruby Rose, had a rough start, found abandoned on a rural country road by a retired military gentleman who was out hunting With lots of TLC and support, Smokey Joe is well and is thriving!
Smokey is very sweet and loving with humans, including kids, and animals; his foster home in Louisiana had adults, teens, children, dogs, cats, and even horses! He is playful and respects corrections but being a puppy, can be hyper and excited when interacting with humans and smaller animals but tends to be more submissive when meeting new dogs.
When traveling to new places, Smokey Joe rides well in a crate. He enjoys activities like swimming, fetch, walks, playgroups and meeting new people.
When it comes to toys, this guy loves squeaky and chew toys and playing tug-o-war. Although he has bursts of excitement, he always enjoys lap time.
Being just a puppy, he has so much to learn! He'll need house training, crate training and will need to learn to walk on a leash. We strongly recommend that all our dogs - and especially puppies - attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and his human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take him. Though a fenced yard is an ideal place for your puppy to romp and play safely, if that’s not an option then lots of daily leash walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Puppies are a lot of work and require a strong commitment to teaching them obedience, socializing them with other dogs and people, playing with them and loving them to pieces. It takes a lot of time, energy and patience to bring up a puppy - and it’s totally worth it!
If you're ready to make that awesome commitment to bring up Smokey Joe, then fill out an application today! Sweet puppy kisses and warm furry snuggles may soon come your way!
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

*Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
