This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Do you have room in your home for this special needs girl? If you do, she will melt your heart.
Winter Berry is deaf but gets along quite well; thank you very much! She gets along with dogs and adult humans and is playful and tolerant with children.
She adapts her playstyle well to other dogs and would really love a medium to large play buddy.
We don’t know how she is with cats and other small animals, so a home without little critters might be best.
This beautiful, mellow Hound/Catahoula mix was rescued from a hoarding situation with over 100 hounds and curs. The dogs were well socialized but didn’t get regular vet care.
Winterberry likes checking out new places and does well riding in the car. Once she reaches her destination, she likes to check things out and settles quickly.
She rarely barks and is affectionate, outgoing, and even-tempered. Her gentle, goofy personality will win you over in an instant. She is quiet, resilient, and eager to please. Her favorite things to do include walks, hiking, playgroup, tug-o-war, meeting new people, and cuddling in your lap.
Winter Berry lived outside when rescued and is now fully housetrained – no accidents! She d
oes not like the crate, and prefers not to be left alone, but is nondestructive in the house when left alone. She e
njoys walks around the neighborhood and does not pull on the leash.
She is practically perfect in every way; except she sometimes finds the trash too tempting to resist!
Training is a must, both for obedience and safety, with deaf dogs, but Winter Berry is intelligent and sure to catch on quickly.
Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see

*Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
