Awesome dog(s) alert! Cajun and Gumbo are super sweet beagle/pointer mixes who love all dogs and all people. We don’t know if they are litter mates, but they sure do look like they could be!

Cajun was found with his buddy Gumbo at a local school playing with kids. They were brought to local animal control but were never claimed.

He is playful with kids, adults, and cohabiting and new dogs and respects correction. He also does well with co-habitating cats.

He rarely barks but may try to dig his way out of the yard if left unattended.

He’s affectionate, gentle, goofy, outgoing, intelligent and eager to please.

His list of favorite things includes toys, squeaky toys, chew toys, lap time, crate time, cuddling, hiking, digging, walking, and meeting new people. He does well in the car tethered, crated, or loose. House and crate training are in progress.

As with all our rescues, we highly recommend training for Cajun and Gumbo, to improve their focus and manners, and help them bond with you!

So, if you are looking for a great family dog, you can’t go wrong with Cajun or Gumbo – but it may be hard to decide between the two!

Medical Note:  A littermate of this dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. As there is thought to potentially be a genetic component to predisposition to this condition, this dog has been preventatively treated though does not currently show any bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.  Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.

An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see      HERE      for more information about this.

To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website:    www.sosarl.org/aa/

*Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
