Meet the majestic Caliope, fondly known as “Cali” – a lovable giant with a heart as vast as her 136-pound frame. This gentle giant has a story that pulls at the heartstrings, having been adopted as a puppy by a compassionate elderly couple facing life’s challenges.

Now, Cali, the 136-pound beauty, finds herself in search of a new home, ready to bring her unique charm to a family willing to embrace a larger-than-life canine companion. Despite her impressive size, Cali is a serene soul, known for her calm demeanor and the art of being an oversized couch potato.

Imagine the joy of having this gentle giant by your side, a true guardian with a knack for alert barking to keep your home safe and sound. Cali’s low-exercise lifestyle makes her an ideal match for those who appreciate the companionship of a larger dog without the need for rigorous activities.

In her downtime, Cali enjoys leisurely walks, cuddle sessions, and the occasional play with toys – all in the company of her adoring family. Don’t be fooled by her size; Cali is a sweetheart, ready to offer immense love and loyalty to her forever home.

Consider the unique experience of welcoming a larger dog into your life. Cali’s affection knows no bounds, and her presence is sure to fill your home with warmth and joy. Embrace the opportunity to make this sweet girl a cherished member of your family.

Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption for adults or until 18 months of age for puppies.  Please see here for more information on demodectic mange and talk with your Adoption Counselor about this condition.  Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.

An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
