Lacey is a wonderful puppy who may be a Basenji and Hound mix--but the one thing we know for sure is that she is adorable! She is currently living in an active foster home with an adult couple, a seven-year-old, a four-year-old, a dog, a cat, and horses. She is well integrated into the home but stays quietly in a kennel when she is alone. She tolerates the resident cat well but does tend to track small animals and cats that she encounters outdoors. However, she is easy to distract and redirect. She enjoys the resident canine and tends to be submissive when she meets new dogs, licking them and engaging in easygoing play. She is very respectful of the other pets in her foster home.

Lacey came into foster care when a volunteer was approached by her owner, who surrendered her because veterinary care for a cut on Lacey's arm was too expensive. Lacey was initially an outdoor dog, but she immediately adapted to being in the house, and she is comfortable and relaxed inside her crate when she is on her own. Her adaptability has impressed everyone who encounters her. She never jumps up on people, preferring to express her affection with gentle licks.

She loves attention but is never demanding. She happily settles down during family time, and rarely barks, except when she is playing. When she is happy, she has a delightful way of "talking," and she adores interacting with everyone. She is doing very well with her crate and house training. The first time she saw a leash, she was shocked, but now she enjoys going for walks with her family. She has been known to garbage surf or pick up the children's toys but is immediately responsive to corrections. She is calm when she is crated inside the car, but sometimes gets carsick. We recommend obedience training for all of our dogs, especially puppies, and it is an ideal way for you and your dog to bond. It's also fun!

Lacey is a very well-behaved and affectionate puppy who will be happy in a wide variety of living situations. She will be a perfect companion to anyone who is lucky enough to adopt her!

An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see  HERE  for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
