Meet Handley! Handley is what we like to call a Bogle, which is a Boxer - Beagle mix. Handley was found as a stray on a busy street, which he was named after. He was very skinny and skittish and was too afraid to accept help. Eventually his hunger overtook his fearfulness and he followed the treats that were laid out for him which lead him safely being rescued. Since his rescue he has gained weight and is looking more like a Boxer which explains his big beautiful eyes. Handley is very sweet and affectionate, but he is also very cautious and timid around new people and is fearful of loud noises such as cars and other engine like noises. He will bark excessively when he's scared and off leash, and sometimes he will sneak up behind you and will give a little baby bite. We found him to feel safer and more content while he's leashed, especially when meeting new people. It takes him awhile with new people but he eventually becomes less cautious and more friendly. It also takes him a little while for him to start playing with new dogs, he seems to do better with smaller ones and one at a time. He met a few cats at the vets and was fine. We feel that a trainer would help him overcome some of his fears with new people and loud motor noises. Once he is comfortable with a person he is friendly and eager to please. When he wants attention he will reach out with his paw and will tap or hold you. He loves to play fetch with a ball, likes furry squeaky toys and raw hide chews. He travels well in a crate, but he rather sleep in his bed at night. He's house trained, and he will let you know when he needs to "go" he will moan and groan as if he's saying he wants "out." With his fears of motor sounds, a fenced in yard is recommended for his safety. If you can give this loving boy a chance along with some training, love and patience, he will make a great loyal companion.
