This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.

Jackson is as awesome as they come. He is a sweet, outgoing, well-balanced boy. He is great with other dogs. He has been nothing but a joy while in foster care; he is highly affectionate, calm, easy, smart and sweet. Jackson has lived with toddlers and older children, and done great with them. He is not a fan of the crate - he will whine and cry - but he does not need to be crated: he is not destructive, he is housetrained, and he gets along nicely with the other dogs in the home. Jackson loves toys and playing with other dogs. He has not been around any cats so we don't know how he will be with them. Like all young dogs, Jackson will benefit from leash and basic training; he is a smart and focused dog, so the training process should be enjoyable.

Jackson still has puppy energy when in play; he would love to have a doggie brother or sister, or have regular playdates with other dogs. He has moderate exercise requirements; he is happy with off leash yard time and several walks a day. Jackson has a beautiful soft coat, that is filling in nicely where it was shaved for his surgery.

Jackson came into rescue after being hit by a car. He had a broken pelvis that caused him to be in a great deal of pain and poor range of motion in his right rear hip. He underwent FHO surgery in early February and was recovering very nicely - strong and running and playing with all the other puppies - when he tested positive for heartworms. We immediately started him on treatment, but unfortunately the strict crate rest required for heartworm treatment recovery is counterproductive to the activity requirements recommended for FHO surgery recovery. Jackson is now cleared from his heartworm treatment and while his back end has atrophied during the crate rest, we are working on getting him back to his strong, healthy self with simple daily stretches and exercises.

We have no doubt Jackson will recover fine and soon be the playful young dog that he has always been at heart; we are seeing great improvements in strength, range of motion and use every day. Jackson's RI foster mom is working with a RI physical therapist and doing stretches with him twice a day to help expedite his recovery. If Jackson still requires physical therapy when he is adopted, his adopters will have the opportunity to continue working with his RI physical therapist at no extra charge.

Throughout all of this, Jackson has been a complete love and joy to have around, even when he was in pain. We cannot say enough good things about this sweet dog's temperament; he will make someone a fabulous companion.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
