Meet Winnie!
Winnie looks to be an adorable Lab/Husky mix. She's a super sweet dog, very active and loves to be moving. She is house trained (she's really good at letting you know when she needs to go out) and leash trained. Winnie is used to living as an only dog, but would likely love to have a canine brother or sister, especially a well-balanced, confident dog that can help her with her anxieties - she really opens up so much when she's around other dogs. She has lived with large dogs in the past and done great. Winnie would benefit from basic obedience training with her new family, as this will help her build confidence as a happy adult. She's been working on some of her commands: "sit," "paw," "down," "stay or wait" (kind of), "leave it," and "come." Her recall needs work, especially since she has a very high flight response. She will wait before jumping out of the car, and sits and stays before any door is opened for her to go through. She also responds well to a gentle "uh-uh." Winnie is used to living a quiet life, without many new people coming and going, or taking many adventures. She takes a little while to warm up to new people and doesn't like being petted by strangers. She's not aggressive, she'll likely back away if they start to pay attention to her. It's best if new people ignore her, and not pet her or make noises at her. Within a few seconds or minutes, she'll go right up to them and sniff them. Then she's more likely to let them pet her under the chin. She's not your bouncy, overly affectionate kind of girl - she does give kisses sometimes and likes to curl up next to her person on the couch or at night. Her safe place is her crate and she definitely needs to have this, especially if there's traffic near the house. Because of her flight response being very high, she will need to always be leashed or in a fenced area until a strong level of trust is developed with her new people. She doesn't do well walking on roads - the cars and noises scare her too much, so a dog park or quiet place to walk her is best. She LOVES the dog park, the beach, and meeting new dogs! She plays really well with most all dogs and is super-fast - typically the fasted dog at the park! She'll start a game of chase more often than not and likes to play keep-away with toys, too, with the other dogs! She likes to play fetch and LOVES her toys - chew, squeaky, soft, it doesn't matter to Winnie! She'll play fetch inside the house for hours if you let her. She will splash around in the water but hasn't tried swimming yet, and she does love to sunbathe! She'll find any patch of sunlight that she can to lounge in. She has lived with kids, and does well with them.

We recommend a relatively quiet household who will be very patient with Winnie and gradually work on exposing her to new situations and people so that she can continue to build her confidence. She's not the kind of girl who likes loud parties or street festivals, but she does well with car rides, and will be a fun girl to take along for walks, hikes, camping, to the beach, any quiet relaxing activity - she'll be great as your sidekick. Will Winnie's new life and forever home be with you?

Winnie's History: Winnie first came into rescue at 10 months old. At that time, she was posted on Facebook as "free to any home." Lucky for her, we were able to rescue her and find her a safe and loving adoptive home. Winnie is now looking for a new home, as her adoptive family no longer has the time or schedule to give Winnie the attention she deserves.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
