How would you like to adopt a Bagel? That's right a Bagel! Meet Maya the Bagel! Maya looks to be a Basset Hound/Beagle mix; these two wonderful hound breeds together make a "Bagel."

Maya can be very affectionate and loving with people. She can take a few minutes to warm up to new people, but once she does, she loves your attention. Maya loves to run with her nose to the ground, just like a typical hound dog. She walks well on a leash, is house trained, and taught herself how to use the doggie door while in foster care. She responds well to attention and kindness and we think she would blossom if she was with an active, patient and attentive family. She has not been exposed to cats, but our guess is that she would probably want to chase them; Maya is very smart, however, and we believe that she could be trained to live peacefully with them. Maya will need someone who has the time to teach her everything a well-mannered adult dog should know. Maya can be stubborn and strong willed - likely from her basset hound heritage - so she will need a person who will take the lead and require structure and obedience from Maya in order to create a sense of security and confidence in this sweet girl. Maya doesn't care for the crate, but she should be crated when she is left alone, as she likes to chew on things like shoes. We think Maya would do well as an only pet, or with a 4-legged sister or brother to keep her company and to play with in her furever home.  In her short life, Maya has moved around quite a bit, so she may show some anxiety during the first few months of transition to another home. Maya will benefit from basic training and patient acclimation into her new home. She has a lot of potential and deserves a good life and home - she is a very good girl, and will only get better as she builds confidence and is allowed to be the dog she was always meant to be. Do you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl?

Maya originally came into rescue in 2015 after having birthed a beautiful litter of puppies to which she was an excellent and attentive mom. Prior to then, Maya lived with a college student and roommates, and then moved in with the student's parents. Maya's left front foot is a little crooked (pointed outward) and it does not seem to bother her at all - this can be common anatomy for the Basset Hound breed.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
