This pretty girl is Harlow!

We're not really sure what breed mix Harlow is, maybe a Labrador/Terrier mix. She appears to be about 2 years old. Harlow is very affectionate, but doesn't need to be in your lap. She can be shy at first with strangers, and occasionally skittish in new situations, but she is friendly in a reserved sort of way - she has made great strides. She's eager to please, even-tempered and gentle.  Harlow is a goofy, happy girl who loves to roll in the grass and scratch her back on the ground! She LOVES belly rubs and being outside! She also seems to like the water so swimming might be another love of hers! She's good with other dogs and with cats - she has not been around children yet.

Harlow is crate trained (prefers an open wire crate), and will likely be easy to house train; she has never had an accident in her crate and usually doesn't go inside if taken outside on a regular basis. Harlow is leash trained, but does pull some. She has not been taught to heel, but would probably learn fairly easily - she's a smart girl! A fenced yard would be ideal, but if not available, daily leash walks and trips to a dog park would be great. She does well riding in the car. An obedience class is recommended, not just for the bonding aspect of it, but because it can help with confidence building and socialization. She's already learning "sit" and "wait" and not to grab her treats - she's doing wonderfully! Harlow's been given a second chance at life and would dearly love to have a family to love and be loved by. Would that family be yours? Fill out an application for Harlow today. Show her how wonderful a forever home and forever love can be!

Harlow's History: Harlow came into a local southern shelter and was nursing a litter of puppies. When she tested positive for heartworm, she was scheduled to be euthanized as soon as the puppies were weaned. A wonderful vet requested her release if she could find funding for her treatment. She talked to a friend who championed Harlow's cause and with the help of some generous donors, raised the needed funds. The shaved patch in her photos is from the heartworm treatment and her hair will grow back completely. SOS would now like to help Harlow find her forever home!

Medical Note: When Harlow came into rescue in July 2015, she tested positive for heartworm disease. Harlow has since been successfully treated for this without complications and she is now ready to be adopted! To learn more about heartworm disease, please visit: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please discuss any concerns with your veterinarian.

Medical Note: Harlow tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia while in SOS foster care. This does not mean the dog had ehrlichia. Harlow has remained asymptomatic while in SOS care and was preventatively treated with a 28-day course of doxycycline. Please see HERE for more information on ehrlichia.

SPONSORSHIP: This dog's heartworm treatment expenses have been generously sponsored by Heart Help . Proper heartworm treatment can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. **Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
